Australia - Melbourne City

Melbourne City - rated as one of the most livable cities in the world! In this blog, you will get to see some pictures of Melbourne City, a well-balanced city between the busy city-life and places of nature.

Very charming city really!

Great coffee in a nice atmosphere at KoKo café, in the city.

This
café is a place not to be missed! They serve the most wonderful desserts and cakes! Go to Greco to enjoy mouth-watering desserts while having a nice chat with friends!

Don't you just love the look of these?

They have such a great variety.

You can buy whole cakes or just slices of it.

Looks great for a birthday cake!

Simply one of the best I ever eaten. This place was recommended to me by a long-time girlfriend. :D

This is a very usual sight in the suburbs. Lots of cows gazing around the grass fields. This is where your milk comes from!

The famous "Great Ocean Road". This is "The Twelve Apostles". Some of the apostles are already collapsing, so don't wait too long to visit this place!

There are a number of places to visit along The Great Ocean Road.

Sunset in Melbourne. One of the nicest sunset pictures I have taken. :)

"Murrays Lookout" is near the "Arthur's Seat" which is on top of a hill.

Sunrise.. when sunlight seeps into our world again.

I went to the Peninsular Hotsprings spa with friends, what an unforgettable experience! :D

Go to the Peninsular Hotsprings for a super relaxing day, an experience you will never forget. I was lying on the outdoor hotsprings. There are different hotspring stone pools of different temperature to choose from. It's recommendated to start from the moderate temperature pool and slowly upgrade to the hottest pool!

Imagine this:

It was winter (which is around May - August), the outside temperature is less than 10 degrees celcius, going outdoors with your swimwear might be cold at first, but once you jump into the hotsprings, you get immediate comfort. Lie there in the hotsprings while staring up at the beautiful sky - the sun is setting. 45 mins later, you are in the hottest pool, it's dark all around as the sun is gone. You are now staring up at a sky so full of stars!

Let your thoughts drift.. enjoy your last hour in the outdoor hotsprings before going indoors to shower and change, the place is probably closing around 8-9pm.

That's the best spa experience I ever had.

This is also a very nice resort --> Peppers Retreats Resorts

Click on Photo Gallery to view great pictures of the place.

The touristic Victoria Market is another great place to visit. It's only open on certain days and sometimes only in the morning.

There are two parts of the market - The wet market where you can buy your fresh groceries and one part where you can to buy many kinds of local australian products including sheep fur products and Australian t-shirts and cheap souvenirs.

In the wet market, they sell some really exotic stuffs. Beef Heart!!! And it's sooo big. Never seen/eaten this before, so it was eye-opening for me.

Tongues! Very fat tongues!

Performance in the streets.

Very cute dog, looks like he has lion mane. I heard this kind of dog is called "chauchau".

Beautiful church.

The Vietnamese food in Melbourne is not to be missed! It's super delicious! I ordered the "Beef noodle soup special". I miss it so much. I am hungry whenever I look at this picture.

One of the famous Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne is "Mekong" which is in the city.

"Stalactities" is a pretty good Greek restaurant in the city.

Have you seen a shop with this much sales posters pasted all over?

Go to the Factory Outlets for some nice shopping!

A special store, which still has alot of the candies I ate when I was a little girl!

"Krispy Kreme" is a very popular Doughnut store. I think it originated from the US, as I remember first eating it there.

The tram station in Melbourne during sunset.

A view of the city.

Two white fluffy dogs! The proud owner is next to me.

Met this really beautiful and cute dog at the garage. His owner is a huge man, probably plays rugby or something. Hehe..

Hope you enjoyed this Melbourne blog. It's the last of the Australian blogs for now.

Visiting Grandma In Singapore

Sorry for the delay of this blog, as I was back in Singapore, visiting my grandma who has been sick for some time. She's 86 or 87 years old, a really sweet old woman. She was quite better when I was there.

Right before I left, she was lying on the bed resting. I kissed her forehead and told her I'll visit again when I have the time. She smiled and look at me, then said that she don't know if there's a next time. Tears well up in my eyes. I tried to be strong and told her "yes of course there will be". I kissed her on the forehead for one more time and tried to look happier while I waved goodbye.

I visited Singapore twice last year, main reason being to see my grandma. She was also sick back then, and went into the hospital once or twice. If possible, I plan to return to Singapore again end of the year, where I can spend more time with her.

Among the many grandchildren, I was the clear favourite of my grandparents. When my parents separated when I was a baby, they were my guardians, thus I was very close to them. Grandpa died when I was 10 years old. I am very thankful that my grandma is still around right now. I do not know if I can live up to 80 years old even.

Maly speaks Dutch because he lived in Belgium when he was much younger. And Dutch has some similarities with German language.

He's also learning Chinese from his girlfriend.

Maly = man of many languages. :D

I was also a little surprised when I saw all the tongues stacked up in the display for sale. Heard that tongues are a delicacy in some countries though.

Someone told me that some Dutch eat tongues with bread??! But I never seen any tongues for sale in the supermarket yet!

Melbourne!!! , you should visit again one day. Just by looking at the Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup picture makes my mouth water. Too bad it doesn't look like that now, due to induction, they had to cut down on the beef they put in, BIG SIGH.

OMg.. they cut down on the beef? The different beef slices and beef balls were one of the best characteristics of this dish.

No matter what, if i do go back to Melbourne, I'll definitely go to Mekong to eat the Vietnamese Beef noodles special!

Maybe it's nice.

Though most people don't dare to take the courage to try it for the first time, cos' the idea is new to them.

But if they really try it, who knows, some people might really like it.

If I find a right timing in future, maybe I will pick up some courage and try it too.
